Braves at Brewers

The Brewers came home with an 8 game winning streak after a perfect 7-0 road trip. The Braves came into Miller Park prepared to play the spoiler. They scored 2 runs in each of the first 2 innings for an early 4-1 lead. Matt Wisler held the Brewers to just 3 runs in 5.2 innings. The Braves ended the Brewer winning streak with a score of 5-3.

Tyler Cravy made his second MLB start against the Braves. He retired 9 of the first 10 batters he face, giving up only a solo home run to A.J. Pierzynski. That erased the lead that Jonathan Lucroy gave them with a solo shot in the 1st. Cravy gave up a run in the 4th and another in the 5th, finishing his day with 6 innings pitched, 3 runs, and 3 strikeouts. The Braves tacked on one more run in the 7th before the Brewers scored a run each in the 7th and 8th innings, including Adam Lind’s 15th home run of the season. The final score was 4-3 Braves.

Mike Fiers put the Brewers in a hole early by giving up a 3-run home run and a solo home run in 3rd inning, giving the Braves a 4-0 lead. Khris Davis Khrushed a 2-run home run off the Miller Lite sign under the scoreboard in the 4th and Carlos Gomez hit a solo shot in the 6th. After tacking on another run in the 7th, the Braves had a 5-3 lead heading into the 8th and threatened to sweep the Brew Crew. Gomez came up with 2 on and 1 out and launched one into the Brewer bullpen for his second home run of the game to give the Brewers a 6-5 lead. Francisco Rodriguez came in and earned his 19th save of the season, and the 367th of his career to tie Jeff Reardon for 8th all-time.

Brewers at Dodgers

Jimmy Nelson pitched a gem in Friday’s opener in Los Angeles. Nelson took a no-hitter into the 6th, when Joc Pederson singled in front of Ryan Braun. The Brewers took advantage of some wild pitching in the 5th by Mike Bolsinger, scoring 2 runs. Unfortunately, a 2-out error by Hernan Perez opened the door for a 3 run rally in the 7th inning that led to a a 3-2 victory for the Dodgers.

Taylor Jungmann topped Nelson’s gem with a complete game, 3 hit, 1 run performance. He gave up a sacrifice fly in the 8th inning, with the Brewers already up 7-0. Gomez had 5 RBIs on 2 doubles and Gerardo Parra added a solo home run and an RBI double. Gomez also starred with his arm. Yasiel Puig hit a line drive to center that Gomez caught and fired a strike to Lind to double off Yasmani Grandal at 1st. The Brewers evened up the series with a 7-1 win.

Ryan Braun and Hernan Perez each hit solo home runs as the Brewers built a 3-2 lead going into the eighth inning. Howie Kendrick led off the Dodger 8th with a single and advanced on an error by Gomez. Will Smith came in to face Adrian Gonzalez and gave up a 2-run home run on an 0-2 slider to give the Dodgers the lead. That was all they needed to give the Brewers 2 heartbreaking losses in the series.

Roster/Injury News

Wily Peralta started a rehab assignment on Saturday for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. He threw 34 pitches in 2.2 innings, giving up a run on 2 hits and 4 strikeouts. His next start will be for the Biloxi Shuckers, and he will have at least 2 more starts after that before joining the big league squad.

All-Star Game

Francisco Rodriguez was named to the National League All Star team on Monday. K-Rod was selected by Giants Manager Bruce Bochy as Milwaukee’s only representative. This will be Rodriguez’s 6th appearance, including his second straight as a Brewer. Ryan Braun was added to the NL squad on Sunday to replace Matt Holliday of the Cardinals. This will be Braun’s 6th All Star Game appearance and his 1st since he was suspended for PED use in 2013. The Brewers have multiple All Stars for the 9th time in the last 10 years.
